Chairlifts have fascinated me in terms of both their practical usage and the symbolism they convey. To some, they’re just a way to get up the mountain, to others, they symbolize freedom, community, and the pure joy of being outdoors. For this blog post, I explored the idea of how a single subject, a chairlift in this case, can appear completely different depending on how it’s captured or created.
This photograph taken by me, taken on one of the quiet mornings before the mountain even opened. The atmosphere was one of soft skies and the gently swaying chairs in the emptiness. One thing I appreciate about this photograph is that it is real. There might be a problem with the lighting or positioning, but what matters is that I experienced this moment.

The commercial image I selected is well-balanced in terms of lighting, the snow is sharp, offering the kind of image typically found in resort promotional photos. The image presents an entirely different narrative, one centered on recreation, thrills, and vacation. Although the image is not immediate, straight from the camera, and personal, just like in the previous picture, it carries meaning.

The AI image blends creativity and technology. The image is not real, but it is almost believable. There were some minor inconsistencies, such as small details that should not be present or missing mechanical components that should be there. This image illustrates how data, when combined with creativity, can produce works of art inspired by the real world.
